Even more letters from Home

(and they used to talk about "Home", with a capital letter, meaning England, even when I was a boy)

In November of 1890, Robert Goodwin's father, Daniel, wrote to the family:

"Kettering

I think you will like to have a few lines from your Father and I hope that these Lines will Find you all well and that you getting on well. I hope that trade is getting better that you may have plenty of work for it must make you feel very sad to have nothin to doo. It look that thear should be plenty of work on that Large Iland but I been looking at the few peopel their is on the iland 600 hundred thousand Not so many as their is in Manchester.

I think you want more Capelist you have plenty of Roome for 1000 times as many moer then their would be mor work.

I had a letter from Tom this morning and they are All well. He says that Dan is riting to you so he will tell you all about them.

Harry is in Irland. He has bin working in sotland. He likes Irland the Best the pepol are moer kind. The Pepol keep Building very fast.

You will soon have spent 8 years in that Part of the world.

I traced your voige on the Map very clearly. You must have spent some money goin to all those plases and a grate many diferin kind pepol.

You will see mor by papers about he building than I can Discribe to you.

Now you will want to know how I ham geeting on; I ham living by myself. It seems Lonely but I can spend my tim in reding the Bibel that gives mor Comfort. I ham sorry to say that I have lost the site of my left eye. The site is completely gon but I thank God that I ham as I Ham and that he as spard my life so long. I have many things to be thankful for and I hope and trust that I ham thankfull to Him for Every Blesing and still trust in is Love.

Your Brother William is in Rushden. They have another Child now.

I think Anney as told you all she nows.
