Three Views
From a photo taken when we were overseas, Tuesday morning's market in the main street of Aix-en-Provence. Centuries ago this town was the capital of an independent region of France, and our ancestors were the counts, as your reading of the Bigelow Family History pages will have established.
Another town with connexions to our ancestors: Conwy castle, built by Edward I. Now it is almost within line of sight from the home of Karen's parents and their family in North Wales. This sketch is from one of the photos on the Family History pages.
Now, nearer to home. On a beautiful morning I walked to an intersection near here and drew the view looking west along Courtenay Street. Centre left you can see the spire of St Andrews Church, and in the centre the trig station on Windy Ridge, from where the original triangulation of North Taranaki was carried out in 1841. Courtenay Street runs parallel to the Devon Line (Devon Street), but 100 metres to the south. In this view we are looking along State Highway 3 to where it turns southwards towards Hawera and Wanganui.
