9th February 1860
Fine, but
rough sea, had a very rough night, a strong N.E. Gale till 4 a.m. when the wind
began to shift round to W. by W. and continuing to blow strong all day from there. Very little sleep last night by any of the
passengers it was the roughest night we
have had, all the sailors were kept up. The ship was hove to, once in the night 4 hours huge sea continues to wash over the deck continuously.
A sheep killed tonight.
10th
Fine, cold and much calmer.
2nd mate had a
block fall on his head off the rigging about 11 last night.

11th
Fine, cold
and strong W winds, rain at night.
12th
Fine and calmer sea.
Church Prayers omitted as Captain thought it too
cold and so few attended.
3 p.m. Bible Class as before.
